Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee

Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee is more than just a scripture to the Sikhs. The Sikhs believe Guru Granth Sahib is the living embodiment of the light of God and Guru. The Guru is referred to as the King of Kings and the Emporer of Emporers, the ruler of the universe. The holy text contains the actual words of the founders of the Sikh religion (the Ten Gurus of Sikhi) and various other Saints. The Guru is revered worldwide for the universal truths and the messages of love expressed within. The unique love Sikhs have for their Guru and the traditions surrounding this love started with the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev Jee, in the fifteenth century (C.E.).

The Respect for Guru Granth Sahib Jee Campaign
(North America)

The Respect for Guru Granth Sahib Jee Campaign was begun by a group of volunteers from all walks of life. Following the success of other campaigns worldwide, The Respect for Guru Granth Sahib Jee Campaign North America (R4G-NA) was created to ensure that Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee's physical form, or saroop, is given the appropriate respect.

In the Sikh religion, meat, alcohol, tobacco and other drugs are considered sinful and to consume them in the presence of Guru Granth Sahib or to take Guru Granth Sahib Jee to a place where they are consumed is considered a highly insulting and blasphemous act that is punishable from Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the Sikh seat of sovereignty in Punjab. A hukamnama or holy religious order was decreed by Sri Akal Takht Sahib in 1998 outlining the rules regarding which venues are appropriate for Guru Sahib.

We are a non-political group and are not concerned with the management or leadership issues of any group or institution. We do not have a membership structure but do encourage all of our Sikh brothers and sisters, practicing or not, to contribute to this selfless service.

What do we do?

We run a voicemail and e-mail response service to which members of the public are encouraged to report instances of disrespect towards Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee which they cannot resolve themselves. We co-operate with all concerned parties (families, communities, Gurudwaras, hotels, wedding arrangers and law enforcement agencies) to resolve issues peacefully.

IF YOU KNOW OF ANY DISRESPECT TOWARDS SRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB JEE PLEASE CONTACT US IMMEDIATELY!
